Managing the hot and cold balance of the body is not a one-time activity. It needs to be done on a regular basis. When you have Hay fever, your body’s hot and cold balance is tilted heavily towards coldness. So, eating less or altogether, stopping the food that increases the coldness and eating more of the foods that increase the body’s hotness will help you bring back that balance.
Maintaining a hot and cold body balance means you need to maintain the balance between acidity and cold. When acidity increases, stop eating the foods that boost acidity generation and have more cold foods to calm it down. That is why people drink milk when acidity increases. When cold or mucus increases in the lungs, then stop eating the foods that boost mucus generation and eat more hot foods to make your chest and body feel warm. That’s why taking steam helps relieve clogged nose and cold.
When we talk about eating cold and hot food, that does not mean just food temperature. It means the properties of a specific food. E.g., no matter how cold chilli or black pepper is when you eat them enough, your body feels warm to the extent that it gives a burning session. Chilli, black pepper and many other spices and foods have nature or properties of making our body hot, irrespective of their temperature.
To maintain the hot and cold balance of the body, we need to eat food that is cold or hot in nature and not just in temperature. The knowledge of what is the nature or properties of the specific food is passed on for generations in Asian and Middle East countries. This knowledge is also available in the ancient medical science of Ayurveda.
In hay fever, the cold balance gets disturbed. To bring back that balance, we need to stop eating cold food for some time and eat more hot foods and take herbs and spices supplements that make the body warm and boost the lungs’ natural functioning.
Here are the foods that have cold properties and should be avoided entirely when you suffer from hay fever:
1. Milk and all sorts of milk products like cheese, butter, biscuits that has milk, ghee, milk chocolates etc.
2. Fruits and fruits products, except critic fruits. Mainly avoid apple, banana, lychee.
3. Rice and rice products like rice crackers, rice cereal, sushi, cooked rice etc.
4. Cold temperature food or air, like cold water, anything just out of the freeze, cold air, cold drink etc.
Apart from avoiding these foods, start having more spices and warm soups and drinks.
